Ms. Sabel is a retired Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Policy Analyst and chairs the LWV Upper Mississippi River Region.

In the mid-1900's, the population of Minnesota grew and the state changed. Toxic contamination of groundwater by industrial chemicals from landfills and dumps alarmed citizens, and increasing detection of pesticides in rural wells was downright scary. Water levels were declining rapidly in the aquifers that provided water to our cities. This came to a head with passage of the 1989 Minnesota Ground Water Protection Act.

Non-members are welcome. Socializing and light dinner start at 6:00 p.m. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend a free light supper and socializing at 6 p.m. The presentation takes place at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers.

Every 10 years, states re-draw the boundaries of congressional and legislative districts. Redistricting is supposed to reflect changes in population and ensure that everyone is fairly represented and grouped by compact boundaries indicative of common area interests and concerns. Politicians draw districts to give themselves or their party an unfair advantage by drawing boundaries in accordance with political affiliations. Common Cause believes voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.
